Kandice N. Point-Du-Jour
This is Mrs. Point-Du-Jour’s 20th season with The Special Dance Company of Columbia High School. In December of 2017 she was the recipient of the Community Lifestyle Award by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Black MBA Association Inc. She was awarded the 2014 Eastern District Dance Teacher of the Year by the American Alliance of Health,
Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). In 2013, she received the NJ Dance Teacher of the Year award from NJAHPERD.
Mrs. Point- Du-Jour is the first Cooperating Teacher for the State of NJ mentoring program for student teachers in dance education from Montclair State University and Rutgers University. This year she served as a mentor for the National Dance Education Organization Mentorship program to a new teacher in Minnesota.
Mrs. Point-Du-Jour is dedicated to providing students with quality dance education in the public school system. She is devoted to inspiring students, not only to build technique, but to connect dance to their personal, cultural and social realities through dance history and choreography as a means to cultivate and refine personal expression. She is a member of the National Dance Education Organization and currently a board member for Dance New Jersey. Mrs. Point-Du-Jour is a presenter for many state and national conferences. She also provides professional development to other educators in the field. She is a certified Pilates Instructor through the Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) and holds a BFA in dance from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.
